Matty Healy & Gabbriette Bechtel Skip Charli XCX’s Intimate London Wedding – Here’s Why

July 22, 2025 – While Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel officially tied the knot in a low-key London ceremony this weekend, one notable couple was missing from the guest list – Matty Healy and his fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel.
Work Commitments Keep Couple in LA
The 1975 frontman and his model-turned-actress fiancée were unable to attend the July 19 civil ceremony at Hackney Town Hall due to Bechtel’s professional obligations in Los Angeles.

“Matty and Gabbriette couldn’t make the legal ceremony because of her work commitments for I Know What You Did Last Summer keeping them in L.A.,” the insider revealed. “They’re looking forward to celebrating at the Sicily wedding.”
Bechtel, who makes her acting debut in the horror reboot, attended the film’s red carpet premiere on July 14 ahead of its July 18 theatrical release.
Bigger Celebrations Ahead in Sicily
The London ceremony served as the legal formalities for the pop star and her drummer beau, with a much larger destination wedding planned for Sicily later this year.
“The party’s just getting started,” a source previously told PEOPLE. “They’ve always dreamed of a big party in Italy. Somewhere beautiful and private, where all their friends can let loose. It will be star-studded.”
Healy did participate in pre-wedding festivities, joining Daniel’s bachelor party in Ibiza earlier this month alongside other members of The 1975.
How Charli XCX Played Matchmaker
The couples share a special connection – Charli actually introduced Healy and Bechtel when she formed the band Nasty Cherry in 2019, hand-selecting Bechtel as a member. Their relationship was documented in the Netflix series I’m with the Band: Nasty Cherry.
After being romantically linked in September 2023, the couple announced their engagement this June following Charli’s Brat tour stop in Brooklyn. Bechtel shared photos of her unique black diamond engagement ring on Instagram with the caption: “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT.”
Healy’s mother, actress Denise Welch, expressed her excitement about the engagement on Loose Women, calling Bechtel “everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.
