Recalling that pivotal moment in a 1998 interview with People, Martina shared: “Here I was, crying on his shoulder about my band not coming together, and I thought, ‘I’m in love with this guy. This is crazy. He lives in a warehouse.” Despite the rocky start, a connection sparked.
Their romance blossomed quickly. They got engaged in May 1987 and married just one year later on May 15, 1988, in Martina’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas.
