Forget the towering fondant Selena Gomez is dreaming of biscuits and gravy for her wedding dessert. The singer and actress offered a surprising glimpse into her future wedding menu during a new interview clip shared by her brand, Rare Beauty, on Friday, July 25th.
While brainstorming ideas for her eventual marriage to music producer and cookbook author Benny Blanco, Gomez, 33, made one thing clear: “I do know I don’t want a big cake.” Instead, she envisions something far more intimate and nostalgic.
Mini Cake for Two, But Her Dessert Dream is Savory
Gomez revealed plans for a “mini” cake reserved solely for herself and Blanco, 37, to enjoy privately and perhaps even freeze as a keepsake. But the real showstopper? Her preferred dessert choice isn’t sweet at all.
“I think my preferred dessert would be biscuits and gravy,” Gomez declared. And not just any recipe: “My Nana’s biscuits and gravy. That sounds like dessert to me.” This down-home comfort food, a beloved family recipe, trumps traditional wedding sweets for the star.
Wedding Planning on Pause, But Love is Cooking
Despite these tasty teases, wedding planning hasn’t officially begun for the couple, who got engaged in December 2024. Blanco confirmed this during a July 10th appearance on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast.
Explaining the delay, Blanco cited their hectic schedules: “We both need to chill… we both have been working so much.” He detailed a non-stop cycle of filming music videos, album promo, holidays, Gomez shooting Only Murders in the Building, and his own book writing. “We got engaged and then… we hadn’t even had time to get into it,” he admitted, though he emphasized, “But we’re so excited.”
Blanco hinted they might “sit down” this summer to start planning, describing their vision as “chill.” He also offered a sweet glimpse into their relationship, sharing that Gomez makes him want to “hang out and cuddle — just watch things, just eat food and have piles of food around us and have the best time ever,” something he doesn’t usually enjoy in bed.
Food: The Heart of Their Romance
Food is undeniably central to Gomez and Blanco’s love story. Blanco has previously boasted about going “all out” for their dates. For Valentine’s Day, he famously treated Gomez to Taco Bell, homemade movie-theater nachos, her favorite Texas pickles (deep-fried!), plus her favorite candies and Hot Cheetos.
